SimPolSeg : An Agent-Based Simulation of Political Migration Dynamics and Geographic Polarization∗

چکیده
In this paper I simulate neighborhood level political migration dynamics following a change in neighborhood racial composition using SimPolSeg, an original agent-based modeling software program. SimPolSeg simulates agent behavior according to the Migration-Polarization (MP) theory of partisan sorting (Anastasopoulos 2014a). Dynamic simulations using SimPolSeg demonstrate how non-white migration and conservative flight lead to racially and ideologically segregated urban neighborhoods. ∗This is a draft, please do not cite without permission. 1

Polarization and Segregation through Conformity Pressure and Voluntary Migration: Simulation Analysis of Co-Evolutionary Dynamics
While conformity pressures people to assimilate in a community, an individual occasionally migrates among communities when the individual feels discomfort. These two factors cause segregation and cultural diversity within communities in the society. By embedding a migration dynamic into Kuran and Sandholm’s model (2008) of preference evolution, we build an agent-based model to see how the varia...
متن کاملOptimal adaptive leader-follower consensus of linear multi-agent systems: Known and unknown dynamics
In this paper, the optimal adaptive leader-follower consensus of linear continuous time multi-agent systems is considered. The error dynamics of each player depends on its neighbors’ information. Detailed analysis of online optimal leader-follower consensus under known and unknown dynamics is presented. The introduced reinforcement learning-based algorithms learn online the approximate solution...
متن کاملSimulation of The Impact of Income Distribution on Social Unrest Using Agent-based Modeling Approach
Abstract Poverty and various forms of inequality, including class, gender, racial, and ethnic inequalities, are caused by imbalances of power relations and make society prone to social instability and unrest; Inequalities that are by-products of the growing power imbalances between the rich and the poor. The problems of poverty and inequality are inextricably linked to powerful economic and p...
متن کاملAn Agent-Based Dynamic Model of Politics, Fertility and Economic Development
In the political economy of development, government policy choices at a single point in time can dramatically affect a country’s development path by impacting fertility, economic and political decisions across generations. Combining both system dynamics and agent-based modeling approaches in a complex adaptive system, I formalize a simulation framework of the Politics of Fertility and Economic ...
متن کاملOrganizational Learning and Knowledge Spillover in Innovation Networks: Agent-Based Approach (Extending SKIN Framework)
In knowledge-based economy, knowledge has a public good and non-rivalry nature. Firms build their own knowledge stock not only by means of internal R&D and collaboration with partners, but also by means of previously spilled over knowledge of other firms and public research laboratories (such as universities). Firms based on their absorptive capacity, and level of intra-industry and extra-indus...
